Services at Monoplex Eye & Studley Ocular

Custom Crafted, Handmade Artificial Eyes

At Monoplex Eye Prosthetics and Studley Ocular Labs we provide each and every patient with a custom made, handcrafted ocular prosthetic. We use an impression molded technique to ensure every eye conforms exactly to the patient’s socket and receives the best movement possible. The prosthesis is hand painted using the patient’s companion eye as a model and guide for matching. Our methods and technique allow us to create a custom prosthetic eye with the best possible cosmetic results.

Scleral Shell Prosthesis

A scleral shell prosthesis is a thin, hard plastic lens that is designed to fit over a disfigured, blind eye. The prosthesis is carefully created to cover the entire existing eye, and to provide excellent symmetry with a patient’s companion eye. Our attention to detail and precision in the fitting process allows us to provide our scleral shell patients with excellent movement to the prosthesis. Most scleral shell prosthetics can be worn full-time, and need very little maintenance. If you currently have a non-sighted eye there is a good chance you would be an excellent candidate for a scleral shell prosthesis. Give our office a call today to schedule an evaluation.

Pediatric Fittings

Our passion for quality care and services really shines with our pediatric patients. We know that making sure families and children are comfortable when they come to our offices is a vital part of a great final outcome. Throughout the process we are sure to explain and show children and families every step in the artificial eye creation.

We understand that the loss of an eye can be an overwhelming experience for both the children and their entire families and we work hard to ensure that receiving their first artificial eye is a positive experience all around. After the completion of their first ocular prosthesis, pediatric patients typically need to return every 2-4 months for cleanings and adjustments, as their face shape and size is always growing and changing.

Insurance Processing

Here at Studley Ocular Labs and Monoplex Eye Prosthetics we are proud to provide our patients with expert office staff who are trained and well versed in insurance processing and billing. We are happy to assist in obtaining authorizations and referrals and in getting your medically necessary services paid for.

Cleaning, Polishing and Evaluation of Ocular Prosthetics

Our patients typically need to return every 6-12 months for routine cleanings and polishes of their artificial eye. At this time we will also evaluate the fit and appearance of the ocular prosthetic, ensuring that it is always looking and feeling as good as possible.

Keeping your eye clean and polished will ensure for the best possible cosmetic result as well as a healthy socket overall

Adjustments to Artificial Eyes

Enlargements or reductions in the size of artificial eyes can often be done by adding or removing plastic without replacing the whole eye. Young children will need adjustments and replacements more frequently as their face size and shape is constantly changing.
